I see abdominal radiographs looking for foreign bodies pretty often. Usually the exam is done to look for missing surgical instrument or needle after a surgery.
Sometimes the study is done to look for a rectal foreign body. I’ve seen a whole array of “toys,” devices, and even a jar of jam in the rectum. How these foreign bodies got there is always an interesting story.
Naturally, as I thought about a cartoon I could make that would include rectal foreign bodies, the thought of unicorns and leprechauns sprung into my head and this cartoon was created.
