For those that are unfamiliar, nipple shadows are a real thing. They are the silhouettes created by nipples on frontal chest radiographs that can mimic lung nodules. This can be problematic, causing some stress to the radiologist and patient.
If it is unclear whether the findings are due to lung nodules or nipple shadows, follow up studies using nipple markers are obtained.
